Your boss apparently does not care about you, so you have no reason to care about him. Do what you need to do to get by as best you can, including telling him what a good boss he is and how much you appreciated his consideration to help you become more effective for the company (by messing up your team, but don't say that, of course).
Behind his back do what you can to improve your situatoin. And I am sure others have reminded you to be careful not to jump from the frying pan into the fire, since a new position that looks good on it face may be toxic underneath.
Maybe it's not so bad where you are or maybe you can improve your current situation. I'm not saying it is or that you can, just to leave no stone unturned, and if feasible it might be pretty good.
