Hi. I’m looking for a career advisor. I’ve worked in a governmental organization for quite a few years now and I feel ‘stuck’. I’m 54 years old, so I have quite a bit of skills and experience. I’d like to harness those skills and experience so that the next phase of my career feels productive and dynamic. Ideally, the advisor brings a feminist lens to her work. My education is policy-focused and I’m passionate about reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Thank you for your ideas.

I’d look at corporate DEI roles, or something that supports employee resource groups.

With respect to your policy focus: Look for jobs within Corporate Social Responsibility, Government Relations, Sustainability, DEI and — for companies that must deal with substantial government regs — Compliance.

I work as a career coach for my recruiting company. I would say start with a career assessment you can start with this site https://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip to define your interests and then look at the labor market information in your area to see what jobs are in demand with your skillset. Going off what you mentioned my first thougtht was finding work at a NPOs as a Program manager with a DEI focus, in DEI in higher ed. administration or like the other poster mentioned, HR (DEI) roles.

I'm so excited for you. Putting your skills and personal values forth into a new direction and mission is exciting.

Here are some things to consider.
-When I had coaches and was seeking them, I found advice like this helpful (btw, I'm not endorsing, just using this link because it has great advice): https://kathycaprino.com/2018/01/thinking-working-career-coach-heres-need-know/

-If you feel you'd like to learn new skills or connect with those with similar directions, consider joining some groups with likeminded folks. Key words could be DEI, also social enterprise, social responsibility, incubators and accelerators, human capital, leadership for change, higher education, etc. (this could be for groups, companies, or even upskilling with certifications or more).
Consider speaking / panel engagements at local colleges, associations, policy/political training bootcamps. Either giving the speech or attending. Sometimes these places list who their speakers are - some may be career coaches---they are tapping into and speaking with their audience.

Hopefully, you'll not only find a career advisor/coach who fulfills that lens you mention - and supports your endeavors.
Life is a journey. You may have career advisors, coaches, mentors, pods, tribes, etc. in many shapes and forms. Good luck.
