Thinking about career change

Thinking about career change

I have been in the building sector for over five years now, but I had a gap in-between. I have gotten to the stage where I am feeling my confidence shrink as I keep working in this field as more young people are moving ahead faster. I don’t know if I should look into specialising now into engineering or if career change should be considered? With AI also showing potential for growth, I doubt it will be long before my role is replaced…I am not sure what to do.

    Hello!

AI is making incredible advances. And yes, there will be sectors and jobs that AI will be able to do - and is already doing.

I work part time with ScaleAI as a contracted annotator training AI models. Having worked with ChatGPT for over 4 year now, I am confident in saying that as things are going - AI won't be "completely taking over" any time soon. AI lacks the human spirit. AI lacks human drive, initiative, and ingenuity.

A question I have for you would be: Why do you think these people are moving ahead faster? Are they specializing in something? Are they coming into the workforce with new/innovative training and education?

I'm a firm believer in you're never to old to learn something new. I was 45 when I was able to get my bachelors. I was 57 when I got my first masters. I'll be 60 when I finish my second. If there's something out there that interests you - go for it!

I wish you nothing but the best.

I would take classes (or get certified) in AI for your field- stay ahead of the curve and act as an AI Auditor. In Healthcare AI is making great improvements, but it is still fallible, so human interaction is key to patient safety. In your field even more so- without safe infrastructure we are all cooked!
