    I'd make sure any necessary certifications are updated; 8y is a long time for software development- to remain competitive

    I would say apply for Returnship programs many companies have them as a way to ease back into the workforce but also upskill as well to where you need to be.

    Hi there--this is such a tough place to be. My questions for you are: are you clear on what skills you bring to the table today? And can you articulate them clearly? Hiring managers are looking to quickly understand what you bring to the table (skills, competencies), and the kind of value you can create for their tea/org (what you have and can achieve with these skills). I've found that after a break, it's essential to really zero in on this and to make sure that you can clearly talk about it. If not, job searches dwindle. I hope this helps!
