I kinda get the feeling you've posted this question multiple times over the last month - I could be wrong and if so I apologize. Perhaps if you explained a bit more about your situation someone may have some useful guidance for you.

I started with a government agency a few months ago and applied for a job within the same agency that's a better fit.

Yep, I've read this one before.

You have to be very careful and ensure that it's okay with your present boss and the potential boss especially being a woman. Your present boss may find it disruptive because of the time and effort invested in hiring, onboarding and training you and the boss you're going to may find you disloyal to your present boss and therefore untrustworthy for them to invest the time and effort into to hire, onboard, train...Know that both bosses will definitely discuss you...So again, be very careful. It's probably best to stay a good while in your present position before going to a different position or just leave the company/agency. But remember there's no perfect job and good jobs are hard to find...

Sounds like something you already posted recently. As I posted in a previous reply, within our state agency you cannot apply or move for 6 months. It doesn't bode well if you leave under a year or within a year. Though I work in a very large organization of thousands, we all know each other. When someone applies, people talk. Your search will not be private. Even though it should be. I offered a suggestion already and it was to wait until you are close to your year mark then apply.

There is usually a time restraint for moving internally once you're hired. I would double check on that.

No, I have always had to wait a year before that would be allowed.
