I am a newbie manager. When I was hired my boss said he mentor me and guide me. This did not happen. One department I am in charge of is very difficult to manage. I have sought his guidance several times for this department, but not on the others that I manage. For my annual review I was placed on a performance improvement plan. One reason is that I am not independent, I ask too many questions. So my goal is to be more independent. Second Issue is my problem department that is in complete turmoil due to decisions he made without me that I must enforce. This has caused staffing shortages and resentment. My goal is to earn the respect of my staff again. How am I to do that when he has set me up to fail from the start? I am the third manager for these departments in 5 years. There are also rumors that his boss wants him gone. I need advice ASAP. Also, this is in a hospital.
