I interviewed with 10 people over the course of 2 months for a senior role. Was told 10 days ago that they had completed interviews, planned to discuss internally, and would touch base thereafter. Starting to feel ghosted. What is appropriate turnaround time for a response on your view?

    30 days

I usually wait about a week past their stated timeline before following up.

So if they said, “We’ll get back to you in a week,” I’ll reach out at the two-week mark.

If they didn’t give a clear timeline, I’d check in after about a week to ask when they expect to make a decision.

If they still don’t have an answer, follow up again in another two weeks. If I don't hear back from the company or they don't have an answer, I don't reach back out unless they suggested that I do.

There’s nothing wrong with a finalist candidate following up once or twice for updates.

Because of the volume of candidates looking for work these days it could take time but if you don't get a response within 30 days, I would move on. Followups at this point are usually ghosted. These companies contact you almost immediately if interested.

In my experience this means that they got back to the selected candidate in the timeframe they stated, but will not contact other finalists until that person’s offer has been made and accepted.

There’s still no harm in following up to ask for an update.

My experience tells me that if a company is interested in you, they'll move quickly. I've also found the longer the lag time between that final interview and any follow up, the less chance you have of getting the position, I'm so sorry.

I agree with another poster who said they've likely offered the position to their first choice candidate and are waiting for an answer.

My experience is that the higher the position, the longer it takes to fill. One issue may be that, since this is a senior role, it may require approval from the board of directors. It would be okay to reach out to the recruiter to see when they expect to make a decision.

Take a deep breath. They are clearly looking for a long term decision and you should too, these things take time. 10 days is not so long. Touch base with them, let them know your continued interest in an email and in that same email offer up the chance to share references with them as well. Let them know you are excited at the prospect of working with them and reference an objective that was highly touted in the interview. Let them also know that you are getting to later stages with others ( even if its a fib) and that you hope they will let you know if you are no longer being considered.

Wait for a response. Keep the faith...as a higher level hire the time to fill is definitely longer.

I like everything in this approach, with one caveat: white lies are lies. We wouldn’t want a future employer telling us anything but the truth.

    Good luck OP ?

This late in the year is usually slow for hiring unless they really need someone right now. Waiting to make an offer so the new employee starts in early January keeps their accounts simpler and saves some money from their 2025 budget. Send an email to let them know you still want the job and ask when they will make their decision, but be patient.

There are several reasons you might not have heard back yet. Regardless, keep faith AND keep applying to other roles. Hang in there.

if they need to discuss internally and you interviewed with 10 people. That’s a lot of coordination during the holidays to try and connect everyone up and if being month end…

did they give you an actual time frame like we need to discuss and will get back to you on date y.? Or did you ask for a timeline and when to follow up with them if you don’t hear back?

It has been this way for a few jobs I've had. If you going away tell them 2 months in advance and use PTO. And the day after Superbowl should be a holiday, just sayin.

Nothing.\nIs going to move quickly in a specially during the holidays and end of year. There isn't much you can do to hasten their process.

Have you sent a follow-up letter and a thank you to each of the interviewers? I tend to gauge the responses from this I have reached out to as a potential indicator of interest.
