I have been looking for a job for over a year. Despite having strong experience, exposure, and a solid skillset, my profile is not getting shortlisted by companies. I am confident in my ability to succeed in any interview and am very flexible in learning and working with new tools. I urgently need a job.

What type of role or kob are you looking for? The market is crazy now, especially in tech, so referrals are preferred in order to get more chances of your resume to be seen.

It took me 15 months to find a new job. Networking helps, if you have connections and maintained them. It seems like I spent whole days of nothing other than shooting darts with my resume to ZipRecruiter, Indeed (those 2, I prefer). Very exhausting. I used my same resume, but I varied the cover letter slightly for each role.

Having recently taken 14 months to find a role.. then having to hire once I started in this role I have a unique take on this.. I know the market is terrible but I am noticing from the hiring side that people are extremely exhausted and its showing.. The lack of tailoring resumes to the opening, lack of professionally responding to screening questions or writing a professional cover letter, and at the end sending a quick thank you letter to interviewers - its all lacking and its unfortunate. These things really stand out to hiring managers (out of tons of interviews I only had two people send me a thank you follow-up - I hired one of them).. with 200+ resumes we immediately would cut people if their salary needs were over budget (so I tell everyone not to take the rejections personally, if you were outside our budget we cut you even if you were completely qualified) or they didn't answer the 4 screening questions we had .. I know its exhausting out there but I feel like this feedback is necessary and hopefully helpful. It truly isn't only networking its also being thoughtful in applying. Use ChatGPT to your advantage in this as well - not everything has to be written and rewritten every time.

I have found success with partnering with recruiters like (Robert Half, Creative Circle, etc.) My last role I started as contract for 3+ months to perm and I was hired and was with the company for 3 years. Contract work is for sure an opportunity to get your foot in the door. Good luck in your search you will land, just keep pushing forward and keep the faith. E!

Good day, I hope you find the right place, and I do agree you can try contract work or if you have 60 college credits or more substitute teaching if you like working with children. Freelance work as well turning them skills you have to help others. Keep pushing.

Have you had your resume checked by AI or ChatGPT? These have been great for me. Just a suggestion.

Does your strong experience fit with the types of jobs you are applying for? Have people told you that you are a good interviewee or is that your perception? I would recommend a job coach who can more objectively assess and work with you on what is missing.

I am sorry you are going through this. A few of things to try. Make a list of the companies you want to work for and applied for. Check LinkedIn for people who work at the company that you are connected to or your connections are connected to. Reach out to your network and let them know you are applying for a role and ask if they would recommend you and who you might reach out to. If you don't have LinkedIn, recommend you set up. It's stronger for some positions and industries than others, but useful tools none the less.

Are you using 5 or more job boards? Have you had your resume reviewed to ensure it's achievement based vs. task based?

Is your resume set up with key words, so the company AI can easily connect your skills to the job?

Write down your skills, key words and your level of experience with each skill. What industries use your skills? Can you change industries?

Write an email to connections letting them know you are looking for a new position, what the position is. There are several examples, Google them.

Today's market is about skills and who you know. It's no longer enough to apply and wait. You will need to make connections. Don't be afraid to follow up.

You may need to take a lateral position or even a step back to get into a company initially. The market is in a weird place. Companies making huge profits and buying back stock instead of investing in product and employees. Many jobs posted and reposted over and over.

    Stay resilient. Good luck.

You could try using a resume keyword optimization tool. It checks for the right keywords in our resume against the job post. I use cakeresume.com. You just paste your resume in one block and the post in the other. Ideally, it reaches at least 70% for it to be optimal, but more is better. It's only one tool, but it's worth trying and it's free!

I have been in the same position and not only is finding a role taxing, but so is navigating the mental and emotional impact. I have been in HR for nearly 20 years so I have a bit of insight into how these processes can work internally. I created a plan that included all of the suggestions in the comments plus focusing on upskilling and rebranding. I was able to find a role in six months and decided to help others do the same.
