Hello fellow FGB people!

Hello fellow FGB people!

I reapplied for a job I had applied for at the beginning of summer; I got to speak with a recruiter, but no call back for a second interview. I reapplied just yesterday because the position reopened, and then I was sent request to set up a phone interview with the same recruiter I had spoken with at the beginning of summer. Does it seem a bit desperate on my part for me to reapply for this role, and then again also get assigned the same recruiter? I NEED a job. This company doesn't have the best employee reviews, however, it is something I know I can do. Of course I am of a certain age that companies are overlooking because they are probably looking for straight of college, or in that age group of individuals to hire.

Not desperate at all — I'd call it persistent, and in a good way. You applied, they talked to you, the role reopened, and they invited you back to speak with the same recruiter. That's them showing interest in you, not the other way around.

Take the phone interview. It's a conversation, not a commitment, and it's also your chance to check them out. Since you've seen mixed employee reviews, ask direct questions: what happened with the role the first time around, how long the team has been together, and what support looks like in the first few months. The answers will tell you a lot.

On the age worry, I understand why it's on your mind, but try not to lead with it in your own head. What you bring is experience — you know you can do this work, you've done it before, and you're reliable. Lead with that, and let them see the person they'd actually be working with. Good luck with the call.
