    What did you want from your post?

    Degrees are commodities. While a degree "might" represent a particular skillset or competency, that is not guaranteed.

    What's not a commodity (especially in tech)?

    the ability to communicate clearly.

    the ability to see a problem and begin to solve it before being asked.

    the ability to think creatively and problem-solve in a non-linear way.

    I'm in the US in tech. However in my experience with IT in south Asia, if you can enhance your IT skills with the other three things I mentioned, you will stand-out.
