Subcontractor here...My typical week, I bill out 25-30 ours to our clients. I want to carve one day a week or two 1/2 days as time off to do other activities for which I am involved - days can vary. Do you think I should have a discussion with the owner and let her know my plan. OR just update her weekly, i.e,, Monday I will take the day off, etc. (this is what I have been doing).. but I have not been consistent with taking time off... I need to have the work/life balance-getting stressed. Thank you for your input.

I allow my 2 clients access to my calendar as I work/log into their systems for my work for each separately. I will block off my time so they know and can plan ahead. Also, when I take personal time off, I give both companies' advanced warning and maintain very clear communication with all my points of contacts. It works well if you keep channels open and flexible.
