First, I want to say I really love this platform. You all are so helpful! ❤️ My question is, I’m looking to start a freelancer career, I know I can do many things as a freelancer and it gives me the free range to try to excel in different fields. I just want to know how do I get started? I tried Upwork and I don’t know if I’m doing my proposals correctly but it seems hard to navigate. Is there something I should consider or do before thinking about being a freelancer?

I went to former employers to pitch them work. I also specialized in a specific area that applied to a niche business. Because that work doesn't justify a fulltime person and is highly specialized, it's very hard for employers to find people to do it so it made sense to farm that work out to a consultant (me) who had a history of completing that work (government filings in a niche construction area of business). So I created a business around two clients, charging them 3x my hourly rate. It started out as a side hustle but as their businesses grew my work increased to about 20 hours per week combined so I could justify leaving my full-time W2 Employer in favor of working on my own. I formed an LLC, renovated a guest bedroom into an office and can pick up more mainstream work if needed.

Love this! Your post is very inspiring. You've definitely got my wheels turning. There's a vast number of things I can do in my space but if I niche down and take the consultant route (because companies also love farming out work too without the hassle of onboarding new employees), then I can create my own.

    Thanks so much for sharing.

You bet. I'm finding since companies have a freeze on headcount right now due to uncertainty in the market, they are more than open and enthusiastic about bringing on a consultant to help them bridge that work flow gap. I've actually had to turn down work because I don't want to work anymore than 25 hours per week. I have a network who I recommend for that work which keeps my network strong. This arrangement also keeps me away from ageism and toxic environments. I keep my contact to 1 or 2 people who I always worked well with. It has served to reinvent my working life on so many levels. I wish I had done this sooner.

I use Upwork. I find it easier to just start from scratch by creating your own project. This way you can set it up the way you want as opposed to applying to other projects.

This year, I decided to try Masters Santiago betting to make the tournament more engaging than just watching matches. The competitive level is very high, and the stakes are intense with a $1 million prize pool. While placing bets, I found https://weparivalorant.com/
