I moved to Ohio recently and left a job I loved. Mu mother in law wanted to me to do her jobs as “daycare will not sustain her here”- I got fired after 6 weeks for not showing up - I just couldn’t stand it anymore. I feel like I can’t find any work that I enjoy here. I did daycare but daycare isn’t very abundant like it was in tn . My mil keeps chiming in to make it worse. I found a job 35 minutes away but decided not to take it. My mil said something about that too. “There’s jobs here- just apply” I feel like I will never find a job that feels like home. What do I do?

You keep applying. And for God's sake stop listening to your mother in-law

You're mother in law is out of touch. When is the last time she applied for a job. Honestly tell her to stfu next time.

Why in the world does your MIL have such control over your career? Also, I'm confused by the first sentence of your post--your MIL wanted you to "do her jobs?" Why didn't you take the job 35 minutes away? Was it the commute or your MIL's opinion? Where is your husband in all this? Maybe get with a temp agency, and make some connections outside the MIL. Do something for fun, and find some friends. Build a network, and you might be surprised what comes your way that makes it worth getting up every day. Good luck!

She works dsp and para pro for good money. I psyched myself out because of what she said but it was also a long commute. I wish there were more daycares nearby.

Look for jobs that *you* want to do.

Your MIL might mean well, but she won’t be the one doing your job — you will.

Thank your MIL for her advice — but apply for jobs that *you* want.

That move to Ohio might have been the wrong move. Stay away from your MIL.

First of all, You are an adult, your MIL should never dictate anything in your life. I don't care if someone says it is cultural thing. Grow up and start thinking for yourself. It is part of being an adult. Do what makes you feel fulfilled, excited and happy. Next time your MIL has an opinion, thank her for her input and move on.

Believe it or not I spent 10 years as an adult by myself. I move to Ohio to be with my significant other and their mom just seems to always get to me. Loving as been an adjustment and I want to trust her but she is just too much sometimes

Your spouse needs to support you and stand up to their mother. You and your spouse should make your important decisions as a team of two, not with a third party involved. Meddling mother-in-laws can cause a world of trouble, but only if they are allowed to do so.

Take control of your own life and stop complaining about work if you get it. Decide who is in charge of your destiny and do what you love. No one but you can decide what is best for you unless you give others more power over your decisions.
