Recruiter here. Not sure what comes up on your background check, but I would say first and foremost be honest. When you get to the stage of offer pending background check, this is when you let the recruiter know and be honest. This gives you a chance to tell your side of the story and how the past was a mistake, but you are working to live a responsible life. The worst possible thing is to say nothing. The recruiter and hiring manager don't like surprises in the end. You know what is showing up that is questionable, get ahead of it first.

I wouldn't have known how to answer that.

It's a tricky situation. Yep it's a good idea to know about situational judgement.

Depends what the issues are really.

Really depends on what is on there.

Are you being blackballed? Do some sleuthing ; try to find out what has been said about you, and who is saying it.

Be strategic in who you set up as your reference panel.

Think about the first person that could give you a stellar review and provide that person...as first on your list. Good luck in moving around this issue.

Learn the parameters any potential employer will hire at. If they don't approve of felonies then move on, if they look at moving violations, is it due to the role?, etc. Every employer who does background checks have benchmarks set up that they are permitted to hire for. Not all are created the same, of course.

Be transparent during the interview and not let it get to that point. Some may think you’re “hoping they don’t catch it” - I’m not implying that but save yourself the headache
