Does anyone have experience moving from a faith based career into something else- nonprofit or completely different? I am extremely challenged as many of my former places of work have closed, merged with new denoms, or have had multiple (in one case 5) entire leadership/staff changes in the time since I was employed there. I have great references from former colleagues and bosses, but after interviewing and trying for a career change over the past 3, nearly 4 years, I am struggling for reinvention without 'provable' experience. (Recruiter language not mine)

After the last round of 7 interviews with an organization, I felt like there was language used that insinuated that it "could look like" I have been fraudulent in my statements of experience. Y'all, I have spent my entire life helping other people- especially women- this should be my wheelhouse BUT I clearly could use some clarity and help here to see what it is that I am missing.

(side note: Continuing in my former field would produce a job within a few weeks BUT my family cannot take another move thus why I am seeking a different field)

Can you take classes at the community college in your desired new field? Is there a way to do what you were doing for a secular organization? Other social services should see transferable skills, but it’s hard to make more suggestions without knowing what your experience is.

I've been told it's a REALLY hard time to transition fields right now due to the job market.

Are you able to say what kind of work you were doing and are aiming for so we can brainstorm about transferable skills?

So do you know why, specifically, it was insinuated that it "could look like" I have been fraudulent in my statements of experience."? What are you saying in your interview that might make someone think that?

When that comment was made, did you address it? Offer to clarify something you said that gave that impression? To elaborate on your experience to provide more depth/additional detail to show you actually have that experience?
