I have been placed on a performance improvement plan with no real goals/expectations attached. Also, half of the PIP was regarding third-party gossip, and I was not aware of half of what was stated in the PIP. I am at the end of my career and have never had this happen before. Any advice/comments? Thank you

No one can answer this question with such little information. Were the complaints in the PIP valid? I know you said some related to gossip, what about the rest?

Looks like they want to get rid of you. Document your work as much as possible and start looking for a new job. Might be a good time to evaluate your budget and cut any unnecessary items as well.

Request a meeting with your manager and ask fir measurable and trackabke goals with due dates and set progress meetings. Unfortunately without those I'm not sure if this job is salvageable. Your manager might be going through the motions to set you up for termination.

How can someone create a PIP without expectations or a timeline or anything. Defeats the purpose of the form. That sounds very suspicious to me. Maybe it should have been a corrective action form. Who does your HR? If you have that department, go to them. Either your supervisor doesn't know how to do the job or they are trying to get rid of you.

    Usually it's both
