I got passed over with 25 years of experience and my director called out the new bosses first day with a headache and told me to "take care of him". They won't trust me with the job but they trust me to train properly without malice after almost a year of covering with absolutely nothing to show. Just changed my Linkedin to OPEN TO WORK!!!

Did they post the job internally and did you apply? If so, did they provide you feedback as to why you were not selected for the role? If you feel comfortable in doing so, have a conversation with your manager and ask for feedback on what you need to improve on for promotional opportunities. Use this experience as a coaching opportunity to gather feedback. continue to apply for other roles if you truly believe you have the qualifications and experience for the role and was passed over.

I'm so sorry! Unfortunately they are using you and your expertise to get things in place but you have no future.

I agree with some of the other advice in these comments - in addition to changing your LinkedIn it's also time to think about other ways to be proactive with your job search by giving your profile a refresh, updating your resume and starting to network

Did you get a training incentive?

SOOOO FRUSTRATING!! And, you have a job while looking for the next step, so slightly less pressure. Network, put the work in to finding your next step, keep all the feelers out there. You got this!!

I would change the LinkedIn banner and quietly look for another job. Keep it cute, mute and professional, and roll out.

I would have called out for the next several days.

Sorry to read, there are several reasons to bring in an external that you may not be aware of. Is it always fair and just no. Do you always learn the why's behind it, no. You can either learn from that or seek a new company. Think about giving them a chance and try to see what they see in this person in the first place. You could learn something prior to jumping. Remembering they're not doing this to you, as a new Director, they accepted the role without perhaps knowing you were interested, build that relationship and partnership. Allow them bandwidth to run the role that may not have been how you'd done it. It may, again, show you a different leadership style.

I'm very sorry this happened. It's even more frustrating when you don't know why you weren't chosen, so you have no opportunity to try and improve.

While you noted you have 25 years experience, you didn't state how long you've been at your job. Your tenure at the company is a factor. Also, did you make it known you were interested in the position?

If you feel a new job is in your best interest, hopefully you'll find a leadership position that values your experience!

    Been there, done that!

Never accept a position of responsibility without the position of authority. It is a major career conflict.
