Short and quick rant/vent.

Short and quick rant/vent. I plan events at my work, not many but enough. I give very concise and clear directions, such as "reply directly to this email" yet, they can't do that, they have to send/create a whole new one. Is it really that hard to follow directions? Thanks for the vent! Just frustrating.

People love to create their own directions to follow. And then get pissed when something doesn't work right.

I manage very large events for thousands and have been in sales for years A good practice is to send a PP attachment with instructions. Also, inside the email make it short and add a line "What to expect next:" then bullet points and "What steps for you to take:" and bullet points. I understand completely about people not reading but if you also use your subject line as a directive that helps as the average person reads that first, scans the rest.

Great advice, the only instruction I had to give them was "reply directly to this email"

Sometimes it takes many reminders. A trick I've learned is to set the email to go out at 6am in the morning so that could be one of the first emails they see. It's always a crap shoot who will actually reads the emails and who will not. Same thing for me for internal folks. Amazing how many say oh I read it, but yet, no response even when they are asked to.

ugh that’s the worst, especially if you organize your inbox and it doesn’t get filtered through correctly.

Exactly, since we have over 1,000 people in our company, I don't want to have 1,000 emails hitting my inbox.

Wouldn’t even be 1,000 emails, it would be 1,000 emails plus whatever incoming emails you have unrelated to the event. I always would send a read receipt to things like this, kinda forces people to pause and absorb. (I rarely sent read receipts though so I think it had that “oh shoot! This must be important!” reaction)

Girl yes! I get it done in my job and people are very impressed but 9 times out of 10 its because I read the email/directions all the way through.

I could seen if this was 30 plus years ago with you saying this, but with all the technology we have now, I would think it would be accessible. I know I had to write down my own homework for each class and be responsible for making sure I took it all home. The teachers do the best they can, with the resources they have. Kids have to take some responsibility too. For this post, it is all about the adults who have been working in the business world for at least 5 years. You can't compare school to business, it is unfair.
