I’m a counselor but I have been selected for a screening for a director of counseling at another facility. How do I convince this screener I can perform well in the role?

The key is to be upbeat, knowledgeable about the company/role (do your research), and clearly articulate why you are an ideal candidate to advance to the next round.

    Be ready to:

-briefly walk thru your resume - noting relatable highlights & achievements

-discuss why you're interested in the role and the company

-have a few of your own questions ready

    -lastly, ask about next steps

Have concrete examples of how you can solve problems for your potential employer. Your attitude on a job application should be "my skills and experience can help solve your challenges"; your resume and cover letter should say ""my skills and experience can help solve your challenges; here's proof."

If I was in a similar situation, I would focus on any projects that I worked on that:

-- involved organizing a team of people,

-- had a large impact on the facility I work at

-- involved working across multiple departments, or multiple levels of employes (front-line and executives)

I would mention the people management courses that i've taken or are taking now.

I would also highlight any recommendations or kudos that I have gotten on my work that highlights my ability to "see the bigger vision" (or whatever commentary aligns with what a director does in your field)

    Good luck! You've got this
