Why is it so hard to find a job these days? I haven't had a full time job since December. I've never had such a hard time till this year.

The pandemic definitely changed the work culture. I'm sorry it's been difficult for you. Have you considered informational interviews?

Idk how to go about that really

I am sure this has to be incredibly frustrating.

You’ve likely heard all the standard advice: double check your resume, make sure it’s tailored to the job/skills you need for the role, and free of mistakes. Have a professional service review it if you’re not even getting an interview.

If you aren’t getting past the screening interview you may want to see if you can get feedback from anyone who has interviewed you (nearly impossible if it’s just a screening but maybe more likely if it’s at least a hiring manager).

Make sure to apply to a wide variety of titles that you’re suited for—and consider applying above your qualifications and not below. Manager women underestimate their qualifications and don’t apply when they don’t meet every single preferred qualification. If getting a certification is popular in your furled see if you can get one, or gain some extra education using some of the top notch free resources.

But you’re not wrong, you’re not just doing anything wrong—many people in certain roles are finding it very difficult to get hired. It’s real!!

Same here. I started casually looking middle of 2023 and then I got (so-called) downsized in Oct 2023 and stepped my search up. I've been actively searching and can't seem to anything. I've had many screenings and some interviews but then crickets. It's hard to decipher between real recruiters and recruiters just trying to meet a quota. I've now become extremely selective when taking calls from recruiters. I'd much rather deal with a company talent acquisitioner than a recruiter but they are just about the same. I get screened by the TA and then crickets. I have to follow up several times before I can get a response or status; only to be told the job is on hold. However, I'm seeing the job still posted on several different job boards. What's that all about? It is very hard not to get discouraged.

I have also been actively looking for a new role since February 24. It has never taken me this long to find a position. I have had everything reviewed and combed over. Recruiters ghosting, lots of interviews where it went well (and somewhere you knew it wasn't a good fit too). I am a master at the cover letter and I think I could be a professional interviewer...lol, I think I have roughly sent out over 300 applications if not more. Unemployment ran out two weeks ago. I have to remain positive and put the good into the universe. Good luck to everyone and don't give up the good fight. Its a hard job market and with new jobs dropping this past month and now Wall Street freaking out a wee bit.

I thinks it's a market issues. Right now it's seems most companies have slowed their hiring way down due to the economy, fear of further interest hikes, slower sales cycles and the need to report better cash flow to their boards and owners. Also the presidential election will impact global economics so everyone is frozen and so few jobs are posted and many jobs are posted and then placed on hold until the business improves. Or the jobs are downgraded and filled with very low wage ranges. So what used to be a $75,000 job is now more like $50,000.

So much of what you are experiencing is not you but the market. By most accounts, things will improve in 2025 when things start opening back up.
