Hi everyone, our company offers cross border work policy.

Hi everyone, our company offers cross border work policy. My sister is going in for surgery in another country and I want to be there for moral support and to help out once I'm done with my day working. She will have someone taking care of her so that is not my role. How should I approach my manager about this? In terms of what should I be saying? I need to make it clear that I'm not there to take care of her. Thanks in advance

Just say, while she has medical and caretaker help, your family is close and you want to lend comfort and moral support with your presence.

Request not only a set timeframe/remote option, but letting your manager know your sister is having surgery and your shift to care for her will be after U.S. working hours (state a time for them as well, such as after 5pm, I will be taking care of my sister). Also, suggest using your PTO time for the first few days of her care so that you can be with her during the most pivotal time of recovery. Hope that helps some and all the best for you and your sister.
