Temp to perm role

Temp to perm role

I've been working for the past month in a full time temp to perm position. There is a lot that I'm still assessing in terms of whether or not this is a good fit for me. There are possibilities for positive changes within the company, but I don't know if they will actually happen. I am getting pressured to go on staff ASAP now. It's making me uncomfortable because the salary is far below my experience level. What would you do?

I would lead with my salary expectations. If they remain on the low end then any discussion about improvements or change is moot.

Since you are a temp, I am guessing the permanent position comes with a benefits package. Take a good look at that and see if it helps to fill the gap. Then, I agree with the next one. State what your salary expectations are, and if you can, come armed with what others are paying for a similar position. For that, you can check out Glassdoor or just Google "salary comparisons for [city, state where you live]."

Take it then keep looking. It’s happened to me. The market is not great so keep what you have and continue seeking a new job knowing something better will show up. Hang in there!

I've done this before as well and it was difficult to explain why I stayed with a job for less than a year on top of 3 places prior that were only a bit over a year due to layoffs. While we all need to do what's best for us, I think it's a bad look. What do you think?
