Confused or Stuck??

Confused or Stuck??

I’m trying to get serious about building a solid financial foundation for myself, but honestly, I’m not sure where to start or what steps matter most. I want to get better at budgeting, saving, and maybe even investing down the line, but it feels overwhelming with everything else going on.

If you’ve been in this spot before trying to get your money right and set yourself up for long-term stability what were the first things you focused on? Any tips for creating good money habits that actually stick would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance

A lot depends on your current age and career income potential. It also depends on your definition of "long-term stability." I can tell you now, especially if you are in your 20s or 30s, that you have no idea what will happen to you 10, 20, or 30 years from now. A single incident, a health crisis, or a layoff from what you thought was a stable company job can derail your plan and drain your life savings. Depending on how much you can start with, I would suggest talking with a good wealth manager from your 401K provider.

A financial planner helped me with my budget and how to balance my savings v my investments. He helped me design my budget and then from there he looked at my 401k and IRA as well as set a direct deposit into an interest bearing savings account. I run financial reports monthly and am very aware of where my money goes.

My planner made sure I budgeted for fun and nonesense too so I didn't feel like a slave to my budget. I started 5 years ago just before the pandemic so I was able to easily get a headstart when I didn't need the money because we were on lock dow.

I'm having a really hard time right now because I'm not appreciated at my current job and it's really sad. I want to change jobs to something more active because I can't sit still and I understand that it's bad for my health. I
