Looking for a job while newly pregnant. I just turned 25 and graduated with my MBA in marketing. I have been currently working as a temp as a admin assistant assisting for an event team for the past 6 months since I graduated in December. Before that I was an intern as an event coordinator under the marketing team which I loved! My temp job is coming to an end and I feel like my time is really limited. My husband could support us on one salary but it will be so incredibly tight. What can I do? I want to work. I really need to find something in the next month.

Congratulations. I've never been in your shoes so I cannot say for sure from exact experience.

I'm not sure if you're looking for FT or PT work.

What I would offer is to--

-start looking for work with who you know. You mentioned temping. Perhaps have a conversation with the place/s you temped at and ask if the job could be extended for a few more months. Or make the same ask of the temp agency. They know you and your work best. I'm not sure if you already told them that you're pregnant (you're not legally required to. Check FMLA details for the 30 days rule).

    -Apply to other temp agencies

    -Search short term/ temp/contract /remote jobs online.

-And, if you don't get a job in your timeline, it's okay. Prioritize your wellbeing.

Congrats! Lots of companies will support you. You can even negotiate maternity benefits when you get the offer (Some companies only offer them after a year of employment)

Please don’t tell the employer that you are pregnant until after you accept the offer. Discrimination happens. I have friends who have said they would not hire a pregnant person even if she was the right candidate because they needed someone to fill the role urgently. My friend was given a lower salary and reduced health benefits during the offer phase but was too tired to raise hell. Well meaning people still have bias!
