Following up post-interview

Following up post-interview

Hey there! Last week, I interviewed for a job that I'm really excited about. I thought it went pretty well, too. They told me they would follow up with me later that week or early this week. It being Friday now, I'm starting to get fidgety.

Any advice on whether to follow up with an email (and what that should say), or sweat it out a little longer? I get overwhelmed with all the conflicting job search advice out there and hear of people getting rejected for the smallest reasons, so I'm hesitant to nudge them at risk of being too pushy... even saying that makes me cringe...do men even think things like that? Ugh.

The job is still posted and they did seem pretty interested in me, so I am hoping they didn't just ghost me.

I'm going nuts!

Just be friendly and follow up. I just ended a job search but I wasted too many hours worrying about if an email would end my job search. More than ever, we are not only job seekers, we are responsible for making sure we get what we need at each stage of the interview because recruiters are overwhelmed. This means that as long as it is a friendly email asking about status, just follow-up.

Yes - follow up with them. Stuff happens - people get sick, hiring managers are out on PTO, family emergencies, too many meetings, etc.

    A short email, something like:

    Hi recruiter:

Following up on our conversation of last week regarding your Project Manager opening. I'm even more interested in being considered after learning more about the company and the position.

Please let me know if you need additional information from me.

Looking forward to hearing about next steps -

Great template...and if you didn't already send a thank you note after your interview, then I would include the thank you again for the great conversation that we had regarding the xyz opportunity.

Update: I followed up on Monday and still hadn't heard anything. So I went on their LinkedIn page out of curiosity, and sure enough - they hired someone else :( It really sucks to be ghosted, especially after having an actual interview where they told me they would follow up. It feels really icky to put so much effort and heart into something and then to just be completely ignored. Thanks for the advice and space to vent a little bit <3
