Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

My current role combines administrative and marketing duties, with marketing being my area of expertise and passion (15+ years).

Despite verbal encouragement to take initiative, my manager micromanages my marketing efforts, undermines my content, and publicly disparages the department's performance, impacting my professional reputation.

I'm torn between attempting to improve the situation at a company I like or seeking a role where my marketing skills are valued.

Should I make one last effort to help this company improve its marketing, or is it time to take my skills to an organization that truly values what I bring to the table?

Thank you.

With your role as a combination Admin and marketing, I'm not sure you are in a position to improve things as you are in more of a support role and not as a leader.

I would use this role as a jumping off point in a job search. You should stress the marketing portion of your current job. If marketing is your passion, you should focus on that for your next role.

There are a lot of questions I have but from what I can tell you enjoy the company but not your manager. If the manager has been there a long time and their style has been known issue with nothing being done to address it, then it's unlikely to change (I've seen horrible managers drive out great employees too many times to be optimistic that you trying harder will change anything). If the manager is new and/or there is hope for change (i.e. bringing it to the next level and/or HR) then that's a different story. Ultimately, the team/department environment can make or break a position and if it's an on-going issue then personally I would be looking for somewhere that's a fit on all levels not just a company one. Good luck!

I think you've already made your mind up. If you've tried multiple times and still haven't seen a change, I don't see the point in trying again. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Get your resume updated and start the job search.

I would go. Micromanagement is a deal breaker for me.
