I had a job awhile back where my manager was a micromanager. She was the only one who could give the work out and she gave it out each morning. She also made our schedules. So several times during the month I was there she would send me an email ( she was in another building) with my work around 8:15 or 8:30 or 8:45, I came in at 8. Almost every time she’d ask me what I had been doing until she sent the email. No one was supposed to work on the list from the day before because every day was a new list. My question is what would you have responded to this? Just curious

I have already left this job- unfortunately she gave out the work to everyone not just me she didn’t want anyone to take anything she didn’t give for work. Thank you for the advice though I’m wondering what others would do or if they had a situation like this

I would answer "nothing, just waiting for my assignment for the day". "My direction has always been not to revisit the prior day's list."

If that was the procedure to be followed to keep the job then that was what you needed to do.

Since this was awhile back is it still haunting you?

Not at all in fact sometimes if my current boss is being difficult I remind myself I could still be with this old one

That's a rough situation to be in. I might have used the morning time to contact IT about any technical issues or questions I had, or to handle any benefits related tasks, or to handle any general administrative obligations.
