So this has never happened…..

I interviewed with Owner of the company and a woman I found out later that “does everything” (very small construction company) - I have a lot of experience and skills that I’ve learned over the years blah blah….. I was offered the job on the spot. Today was my first day - She did payroll from 8:00am to 12:20pm for SIX PEOPLE (salaried employees were done quickly @ 7). Now I know to never start a position and start throwing out all the ways to make it more efficient yet she did ask questions about some basic excel formulas which I was happy to answer. And of course I asked procedural questions and that’s it - as an example- how does she know what job or location to allocate time and or materials too - and more along those lines. She would explain but remind me I only need to learn in case she can’t do it - OK - still need to know it? I think …… First day? on my way home- she called and said she didn’t think it’s going to work out because I’m thinking of doing other things- I was speechless. Part of me wants to go and talk to owner and her and set things straight but that’s only going to cause an uncomfortable situation or environment … I can get another job but this just doesn’t make sense to me - we got along well enough…. Any ideas or recommendations?
