You’re welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn. I have a strong network of startup founders and product marketing and marketing leaders, and I’m always happy to make an introduction if someone in my network is hiring or might be a good fit.
I don’t know of many formal mentorship or sponsorship programs outside of MBA or Master’s programs, but there are skills you can build without taking on the cost (or time) of another degree.
Here are a few suggestions for moving into a director-level role:
** Build financial fluency
If you don’t already manage a budget or forecast revenue, you should at least be comfortable reading financial reports and understanding how marketing ties to business outcomes. You don’t need an MBA for this, just a few solid courses (LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, YouTube) on business strategy, valuation, forecasting, and budget creation/management can go a long way.
** Invest in people-management skills
Even if you’ve led teams before, director-level roles require a different level of people leadership; coaching managers, handling conflict, managing performance issues, and building team capacity over time. Leadership and people-management courses are absolutely worth the investment.
** Practice executive communication
At the director level, how you frame ideas matters as much as the ideas themselves. Get comfortable presenting trade-offs, making recommendations (not just sharing data), and tying marketing outcomes directly to company goals.
None of this replaces mentorship, but it does make you much easier to advocate for when the opportunity comes up.
