I’ve been on a job search since I earned my business degrees last year. I’ve probably received so many rejections that I can’t even count them. However, there was a time when I lacked motivation and felt unqualified enough to apply for a job. My point is that I believe in alignment, and the rejections I’ve encountered are merely redirections. I know that the perfect job is waiting for me, and I am confident that my experience, skills, and education will make me a valuable asset to a company that can develop me and, in turn, reap a great return on the investment made in me.

A great job is indeed waiting for you. I'm glad that you have become confident in yourself and your abilities. Since you recently earned a degree, be sure to work with the career center at your college. They can review your resume, help you practice for interviews, help you know what interview questions to anticipate , and can connect you with employers. Be sure to stay in touch with your favorite professors too; they can often provide some job leads and recommend you to employers. Also don't forget to network with various people you know. Family, neighbors, people you worship with, college and high school friends, former co-workers, etc. may "know someone," so be sure they know you are looking for work. If you were in a sorority or any other campus group, they may provide leads as well. Good luck!

The best advice I was given is that sometimes, making a lateral move actually moves you forward at a better pace.

That being said, maybe taking a position where you can move to your planned role, is where you start.

Congrats on earning your degrees and all the growth you've experienced! I'm in a similar spot right now and look at it in a similar way. What you've done has prepared you for what's next and now you're ready. Let's go get it!

Nothing and I mean Nothing will discourage me. I remember a year ago today I didn't even feel confident enough to apply for another job and here I am so many applications later. I landed an interview which is progress I didn't get the job but it was definitely redirection and motivation.

What are you currently doing while "waiting" for the perfect yes to a job? Keep fresh with short term gigs, certifications, volunteerism.

I am actively putting in applications I just joined the NSLS and am practicing becoming a better leader. I'm putting in the work and not going to let anything discourage me not even a "NO" it's going to happen, I guess timing is everything.

Reach back out to your university's career services department - most unis have them. They can help you with mock interviews, and many times have companies looking to work with that university's graduates. They may also have resume services where they look over your resume to help it stand out better. I worked for a uni and ours was great about this sort of thing!

It is rare these days to find that perfect role and even if you do, one change of management can ruin the whole deal. I experienced this first hand in 2022. One minute, the entire division was doing great.. Bonuses were being paid out every month to the tune of $2K per month. All gone in 90 days as senior leadership brought in its favorite empty suit. More than half of the group was gone in 120 days. Bottom line is that one should look at companies that give you the most options. If one place or role does not go as planned, you can always transfer to any of a few dozen other roles. Options are the key!!!

Regardless of the job market it is important to stay sharp and learn. If you are not already working in some capacity ,it is important to have something bigger than yourself to contribute to each day. Contract or temporary work could provide you with information about the type of work environment you thrive in. It can lead to additional opportunities and in some cases allow you access to jobs that experienced individuals may not be offered. As you likely are aware, be open to industries you may not have considered in the past. What you studied generally transfers across multiple opportunities, your career can move in directions that surprise you. Another option is to volunteer this keeps your energy up and you may meet people who can become connections. Challenges and hardship will come this is in some way preparing you. Good luck

Volunteering does not sound like a bad idea, I'll also be able to make new connections and they would be able to see my work ethic.

Well said, what a nice positive person you are! This helped me a lot. I too am applying fairly aggressively and had a couple close calls, but didn't end up with the jobs. I get disappointed and and havent thought beyond that, but now Ill think of the rejections are redirections to that perfect job meant for me. Thank you!

You are so welcome I am actively searching and am applying to at least 5 jobs daily, even if I feel under qualified you just never know. Never give up you worked too hard.
