Reflections on My Journey with Social Media Engagement and Promotion

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on my experience with social media and the challenges I've faced regarding follower growth and engagement.

When I first joined a follower chain to boost my numbers, I quickly accumulated a significant amount of followers—reaching what I thought was an impressive milestone of 10,000. However, despite the initial surge, I noticed that my follower count has remained stagnant, even as new people continue to follow me. While I do see some unfollows, it’s not at a rate that justifies the static numbers.

I had been investing in promotions to increase my visibility, but as I began to reconsider my expenses, particularly with my aspiration to secure my own space, I decided to pause using the promotion feature. The engagement I once enjoyed now feels elusive. I find myself creating more posts to chase after engagement, which has left me feeling burned out and exhausted.

Some feedback I’ve received points to the quality of my posts—many suggest that they seem AI-generated. It's frustrating to hear, especially when I see others using AI tools who still achieve high engagement and monetization. To gain insight, I directly messaged a few friends with my posts to see if they would engage. I was encouraged when they did respond positively, but I was disheartened to learn that my posts hadn’t appeared in their feeds.

To complicate matters, the next day, I found myself restricted from sending direct messages. This experience has highlighted a crucial realization for me: the challenges I face stem largely from visibility issues. I recognize that the platform prioritizes paid promotions, which impacts the reach of my posts and the ability of my genuine followers to see my content. It’s reassuring to understand that the quality of my posts is not the primary concern—rather, it is visibility that is needed for engagement.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. If you have any tips or experiences of your own regarding engagement and promotion, I’d love to hear from you!

What social media platform are you using? One thing you can do is look at many platform that are more successful. Focus on their posts, not advertising. Perhaps they have compelling hooks in what they say - grabbing title or bold statements. Perhaps the sites have good artwork or color scheme to help. Not sure what adjustment you can make or images/colors you can use on your social media site. Hope this helps.
