I've worked at company for 13 years and been in the same role for the last 8 years. After looking for an internal role within the last 3 years, I have still been unable to land a new role. Each interview I've had there has been no negative feedback and nothing significant that I need to work on. I'm at a loss because I am bored and unfulfilled. I've volunteerd for multiple projects, but I can only do that so many times before I start to feel burnout, which is how I feel now. I feel like I'm stuck in this particular role and I don't know what else to do.

Perhaps more targeted networking might work? What I mean by that is finding one or two individuals within the departments where you'd like to be, and reach out or connect with them socially, via LinkedIn or some other way. You could find out more information about their respective areas by asking pointed questions by getting to know them, learning who's who and how your skills sets can be utilized in that particular area and what you'll need to do to set yourself apart from the pack. Just a thought. All the best!

From what you've said it's not you, it's them. Are the leaders buying in to a Barbie/Ken culture? Maybe talk to a therapist about "what if I never get promoted?" Can you pivot? If you are satisfied with your standard of living, re-assess whether you really "need" to get promoted. A good 5-9 beats a good 9-5 hands down. Good luck sorting this out.

I think a career coach or life coach would serve you well. It sounds like you are looking but for what? What is it you seek? Why are you bored, unfilled? I think exploring what it is that fulfills you, what satisfies you can help you in your journey. But that would be my recommendation to help you get unstuck.

I would second this. I was feeling a bit stuck and unsure of what was next. I did an 8-week coaching program that focused on helping me get clear on what it was that energized me and what I really wanted to do with the next part of my career. It helped me be able to pinpoint specific things to bring back to my boss and ask for in my current job, leading to a revised role that I really love. I did exploring of other organizations and roles as part of the process, as well.

It's clearly time to look outside instead of inside. You have gotten into a rut that your current employer cannot dig you out of because they do not see your value in other places or perhaps your feelings are leaching through and so noticeable that they don't want to move a "problem" into another department. Speak to your HR advisor/manager if there is one about getting more challenging work even if it is only project items that add to your current role.
