I've been out of the workforce for almost 10 years due to caregiving which extended into Covid and a second child. I've joined women return to work programs and networked as well. I have 12 plus years experience in one organization and grew in various areas of customer support and operations, client onboarding, process improvement and compliance in multiple ongoing projects. Not sure what type of roles to look for now and not sure how I can get back into the workforce after the gap and multiple areas of experience. Any advice or leads would help please.

I would stick with customer facing roles. Make time to update any certifications for CRM platforms because things have changed in 10 years. Network in professional organizations that specialize in customer care industries.

Never Search Alone (book and free support) has a great program for helping you focus on roles that most interest you and transitioning back into the workforce. Maybe start there?

(assuming you are in the US) check with the state and local workforce development offices, they often have resources that can help you get back into the workforce (resume writing, tech skill upgrades, networking and job boards). Your local library might also be a great resource.

What are you looking to gain? (pay, career, etc.) What do you want to do? What kind of job/career would fulfill a small part of what you want for your life at this point?

Hello, yes I am in the US, thank you for the suggestion! I'm basically looking to get back into the workforce and stabilize my career in any area that I have experience in....business operations, project support and coordination, process improvement and business compliance.

You’re not alone—many talented professionals step away for caregiving and successfully return. With your background across client onboarding, operations, compliance, and process improvement, you have a strong foundation for roles in customer success, operations, or project coordination.

    A few ideas:

*Look at “returnship” programs (Deloitte, Accenture and others run them).

*Consider refreshing skills with a short course (Agile, PRINCE2, or CRM platforms).

*Position your 12 years in one company as a strength—employers value loyalty and progression.

You’ve got more transferable skills than you think!

I sincerely appreciate this advice! I’m looking into refreshing my skills and hope that will get me some interviews!
