On October 30 at 11AM ET, Executive Coach Charlotte Lee and RocketJob Founder Heather Maitre will present: Human Science Behind Interviewing and Common Mistakes

This discussion will will dive deeper into the psychology of likeability and the practical ways candidates can create stronger connections throughout the interview process. We’ll explore what happens before the interview, how to build rapport during the conversation, the questions that create genuine connection, body language and communication signals, and how to follow up in a way that keeps the relationship going.

We’ll also look at some of the common behaviors that can unintentionally work against you, from interrupting and over-explaining to appearing cold, overly rehearsed, defensive, or inauthentic. The goal isn’t to become someone you’re not. It’s to understand what you’re signaling to others and learn small, practical behaviors that can make you more memorable, relatable, and effective.

Come ready to learn, reflect, and maybe rethink what really makes someone a great interview candidate. Heather’s approach is science-based, practical, and designed to give you techniques you can use immediately.

This is a useful topic — in my experience, likeability in an interview is less about being charming and more about being easy to talk with. Listening properly, answering the question that was actually asked, and asking a couple of specific questions about the work itself go a long way. A short, genuine follow-up afterwards helps too, because it shows you were paying attention rather than just performing.
