I have major anxiety about negotiating my salary after only 1 year.

I have major anxiety about negotiating my salary after only 1 year. I recently joined an a company by way of my old boss. I left a toxic environment as a Director to join a company as an individual contributor (which is common) for my line of work, however I took a huge pay cut becaue I was out of work. I took the job because I had long working relationship with management at our old company. Now that I'm in the role I realize that I didn't quite negotiate my salary because I needed the job and the company was doing a serious layoff and they needed this gap filled. Because of this I think they may've sensed my despiration.

I'm at a point now where I feel that they will continue to add to my responsibilities without consideration for the areas that I support. When I joined I was told I would eventually have 3 global plans to manage. In 2025 they will be rolling out another plan for me to manage. Please keep in mind that I alreay manage equity plans that support senior executives of this company which has high visibility. While I'm grateful for the opportunity, I'm torn over how long should I stay in this role before renegotiating my salary? February will be one year and I already have anixety.

First take a breath. Give thanks for the opportunity, give thanks they think enough of you to offer more responsibility. Then, plan to meet with your boss in your yearly review. Always always come from a place of gratitude then letting them know how much you have enjoyed the work and all the things you have learned (give an example of something new you learned and excelled). Then based on that mention as the company is growing and so are your responsibilities, you ask for consideration of a salary increase. You will know what or how much. There may be a bonus structure already in place or you may already know what a person in your role earns within your industry, then request that. Put it in writing after your 1 year review. The worst that can happen is they say no. But with great responsibility should be a salary that equals that. No emotion needs to be shown this is business. Hope that helps some.

No problem. Go in FEB and negotiate your raise. Come in with a RANGE of extra pay goals. Be sure you can back up your increased salary requirement with the increased profits of the company. How much does that extra group bring to the company? Please get an idea and be able to back it up.

At the one year mark ask them to review you and share with them a spreadsheet of what you have accomplished there. If they hired you to replace folks that were part of a RIF it is likely that funds are slim for a larger than wanted increase. Ask for a bit more than what you hoped for but expect at least cost of living and a small bump based upon your accomplishments.

I am very anxious about negotiating my salary after just one year, it is causing me a lot of stress. I have read that this type of anxiety can sometimes be linked to men health, particularly low testosterone. Oral testosterone treatment can help with both anxiety and low T levels. https://www.rethinktestosterone.com/blog/low-testosterone-anxiety
