How did you know that you were at the right job? I'm feeling stuck at my current job. While I do enjoy my coworkers, and the participants I work with, I am not happy. I am at the same place I was ten years ago, annoyed and looking for change. For the longest time I have dreamed of being a writer. I am honing my craft, but I can't keep going on like this. My youngest is starting high school, and I barely make enough to do what I have to. I need help in deciding what my next step is.

Network and speak with writers. Get a feel for what area of writing you'd like to be in. Take classes and publish online. Have writers look at your work. Immerse yourself in that world while you still have the safety net of a full time job.

In addition to pursuing writing, I encourage you to apply to jobs in which good writing is valued and which pay better than your current position.

I mention this option because you shared a concern about income.

Create an amazing life away from your job. Take joy in paying your bills and maintaining a beautiful existence. You need to first create joy to attract joy.

Could you pivot to a new career connected to writing somehow? Or is there something specific lacking in your daily work (lack of creative outlet etc.) that you could change at your current workplace? If so, maybe you could m work with your supervisor to seek out opportunities for fulfillment.
