My job is extremely toxic and clique.

My job is extremely toxic and clique.

We had a family bash at the school where I work. No one really talked to me but a few parents and a close friend. My boss is extremely toxic and very clique with certain families and coworkers. It was embarrassing being there yesterday.

keep doing your job, offering your best to the students and families that you serve. The right people will see your work ethic and appreciate you. You are there to offer your skills and effort in exchange for compensation. Getting to socialize at events is secondary. Focus on your primary responsibilities first. .Sometimes this helps things fall into place.

Thank you Nancy. I appreciate your comment. I meant to write cliquey.

Your boss is the one who should be embarrassed. Just keep doing a great job making a difference for the kids, and consider transferring schools next year. I'm a teacher who formerly had a horrible boss. Now that I have a good one, it makes a tremendous difference.

So who is your boss? A grade level team captain? Principal? Superintendent? Is this a public school or private school? I think your level of removal from proximity to this person may determine how often you have to see your boss and whether you can just tolerate occasional gatherings or you need to deal with this. In what way was it embarrassing? Did the boss embarass/humiliate you? Or were you embarrassed for the boss?

No she is director of a preschool where I work and she is dumber than a box of rocks.

    Thank you,

And? It sounds like you need to in private give some feedback to your manager about how you are feeling and perhaps excuse yourself from the next event if things can't change. If this is more worrisome than that moving on is the only other option to a place where you just do work and are collegial and not more.

Next time make an excuse not to attend.

    Unfortunately it was mandatory.

As an introvert who hates social situations, I decline 2/3 of the social events. I keep track so even if I have to go, I can console myself that I will be able to skip the next two.

When my boss asked me if I was attending the holiday party I said no, I don't do work parties. He said Okay! No biggie. Then I got a new boss. She asked the same the next year. I said the same. My team doesn't care. She's fine with it but does mention it whenever there's an event. And it doesn't bother me. Its not in my job description. I wfh too and only go in a few times a year. I know I'm lucky. I really like my boss

and our small team gets all the

    things done.

Unfortunately, this was mandatory. We are on a point system so if we miss a school event, we get points. It's beyond stupid.

Your boss should be embarrassed-not you. I hate socializing outside of work. I have always made up a casual excuse and no one ever questioned it. I hope you're looking elsewhere. Life is too short to be around idiots.

Anonymous-Thank you. My boss is beyond dumb and very naive. She has absolutely no clue or idea how to treat others.
