Feeling a bit discouraged today. Had an interview on Monday for a job I have applied to, but going thru all the trouble of interviews and assessments if you know the job is earmarked for someone else.....very disappointing and unfair

I'm sorry you're discouraged. But don't lose hope. It may be that the job is "earmarked" for someone - who may not take it. It's not uncommon for companies to have a person in mind for a job - yet do open interviews. It may be they're looking to see who's interested in expanding their job. It may be they have more jobs in mind and are looking to see who will reach out and what skills they have.

I've been the victim (for want of a better word) of this myself. Yes it's frustrating. But you've put your name out. You've shown drive and initiative. All of these are admirable qualities!

I have interviewed for four positions just like that and I found out after the interview. I was astonished and frustrated. I worked hard on everything they asked me to do, one company wanted a full on presentation with PPT. Just to find out after wards that the position was earmarked.

    I feel you big time!

As frustrating as this can be, it's pretty common. Reframe. Tell yourself that it was good interview practice. Save the recruiter's email for future positions. Often, they'll favor someone they already met for a stranger should a future opportunity fit your skillset.
