This is my first post.

This is my first post.

I am going through a career change. I came into FairyGodBoss via the NSLS, as I am going back to school to supplement my art degree with accounting. I have always loved math (I tolerate Statistics), but I can handle some Quickbooks while I know my way around visual art and marketing.

I, unfortunately, get ill when I am in-office. A lot. I have an autoimmune disorder tied to my thyroid, and high impact, repetitive motions (like removing staples) trigger my vascular disorder.

This proves hard in finding something that can be flexible.

I'm just trying to survive.

You should qualify for an ADA accommodation. However, would wearing a high-quality mask and bringing an air purifier to work perhaps allow you to work in-person? I hope you find what you need.

I have gotten accommodations in the past, with some hoops to jump through. Unfortunately, even with artificial heat sources to mange the vascular side, things still do slow down. That creates a bunch of questions I am tired of answering. I had an air purifier, as well as artificial heat, at my last job, where I contracted Covid and a few respiratory issues.

It's totally understandable why you don't want to work in person. I hope you find a remote position soon. Be sure to network as much as you can online and just keep trying.

With all your education, have you ever considered online teaching or consulting using that education?

For sure. I would be open to learning what sites would be a gold mine for such openings.

Hello and welcome to the FGB family!

I'm also a member of the NSLS (inducted through school during my Masters program). I have Hashimoto's, Fibromyalgia, and Para hyperthyroidism. My heart goes out to you.

While I'm fortunately to have a FT job that I've been at for almost 23 years, I've been trying for over a year to find a PT teaching position. The struggle has been horrible. Are you able to do anything hybrid? It seems lately many companies are willing to negotiate this way if they won't allow full remote.

    All the best!

Hi Paulla, thank you so much! If the opportunity is here, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then yes, hybrid would be okay. I'd rather not fight with HRs - so remote is perfect. Stay well, always. <3
