Does anyone here work in the faith community? Im a journalist in the secular entertainment industry and would like to move toward something I enjoy a bit more. I love my work, just struggling a bit. Any tips or insight would be so welcome. Thank you!

My church in So Cal really only hires from within our church body/family. Though we have 6k members, so jobs fill quickly. Perhaps you may look into Christian colleges/ universities or seminaries? ?

Also agree with other responder that faith based organizations do not typically pay well at all, sad to say.

Unfortunately, journalism typically doesn’t pay well, although there are rare staff positions that let you pay the bills and take a vacation every year. That’s why I’m thinking of the faith field. I’d be doing something that has a greater purpose.

Sorry - you probably didn’t want that insight into my process, but i really do appreciate your input! You’ve given me some good ideas!

Pay isn’t typically high in journalism period and jobs are hard to come by, but great ideas! I’m ready to put my marketing hat back on!

Thanks again! I appreciate you taking the time!

A good place to start would be to volunteer with a faith-based organization (food pantry, homeless shelter, after-school program, etc.). You'd still have the steady income from your current job, help people, and make connections with community leaders that could lead you to a job. Faith based education institutions might also be an option, though journalism is a very competitive field - and often low pay. Look into jobs beyond journalism (grant writing, marketing, website design, advertising, content creator, etc.) where you could use your skills in a different way.

Thank you! Im definitely up for breaking from journalism. My background is marketing, brand management, social media marketing, content creation, advertising and public relations. Not bad for an old lady!

I’m definitely going to find some volunteer work. Maybe that will satisfy my need to serve.

    Thanks again!
