I use Indeed and Linkedin. They seem to be helpful for me. I find that when I find a job posting I'm really interested in I go immediately to that company's website and find out more accurate information about the position and if it still open. I hope this helps out a bit.

Yes, I'm finding that internal candidates and networking referrals are grabbing most of the few postings. Its a tight market.

Unless the position is removed from all posting platforms (including their own site) there's really no way to know.

So unless you have an inside contact close to the hiring manager, you won't know.

I have received responses saying that the role has been put on hold only to find out shortly afterwards that they promoted an internal candidate into the role. There have been a ton of "fake" postings this year with recruiters just collecting resumes. There is no way to find out unless you have a connection who can give you the inside scoop.

Work your network. Just applying is not going to be enough. Expect 9-12 months on a job search these days.

I've been tapping into my network but worried as I'm finding the well is dry. I have a lot of people looking for me but they haven't heard of any relevant roles. I'm trying to make new connections or pitch myself to recruiters about what I can offer but it's not generating any responses.

Pitching yourself to recruiters won't help 100%, if these are external ones they work on commission and fill open jobs they have. Do your research in your field, go direct to the companies you seek to work for. Reach out to the hiring managers and leadership in the company in admiration of what they do. And take the time to take your angst about finding a new role out of the equation because it may be filtering into your conversations. Temp if you can, and volunteer one day per week for something that makes you happy, and another day writing something that you can share with others on either linkedin or some other forum that will help others in your industry. Be open to considering aligned roles that may be less relevant but will net you employment.
