I’m not going to speak about what generation you’re from bc I don’t want you to feel you’re being lectured. What I can do is provide my experience when I was in my 20’s when I was working as a temp, and my intention isn’t to be curt, but…well, sometimes that’s what we need:
You are a temporary employee. It’s irrelevant if you believe you have opinions to offer on calls, not only is your boss telling you nicely to stop, your co-workers probably feel the same and won’t say that to you. Does it suck that a “temp” is treated as expendable? Yes - but those are the lessons we learn as we grow in our career.
Her telling you she will “keep you on” if you can adjust your work / attitude couldn’t have been more obvious and a huge opportunity missed. As a temp, you are never guaranteed a job. Full stop. That she told you “Here is potential for secure employment, possible pay raise, benefits, etc., and your focus remains on what you believe she’s doing wrong is concerning.
She could have just let you go, without telling you what to do to stay, but it sounds like you weren’t able to fulfill that request. and she hired someone new (& I know no one likes to hear this, but is frankly none of your business).
it’s a hard, humble pill to swallow, but in most companies (not all) a temp is brought in as they have a need for work done that doesn’t require hiring a full time employee. And most won’t keep you on when you’re no longer needed, to save $. It sounds as if you were doing an amazing job, or she wouldn’t have offered to keep you on. Consider that a sign that you are exceptional, your work matters and you’ll no doubt have amazing success. Find gratitude for opportunities given in which you can grow upward. I wish you the best!
