Recently, I applied to a fabulous internal job but accidently checked "yes" instead of "no" to one question. I am so annoyed with myself. Despite checking it before sending, I didn't catch the error. No typos at least.

I know it's a small mistake, but I feel like this isn't a great first impression to the hiring manager. I did reach out and let them know about the mess up. I'm waiting on getting an interview at the moment. Am I freaking out for nothing?

Chances are the hiring manager will think nothing of it and appreciate you clarifying. And if they don't and make a huge deal of it, then you dodged a bullet. You don't want to work with someone who is a jerk when someone makes an innocent mistake and reaches out. I wouldn't worry about it. It is okay to freak out (I would too) but realistically, I don't think it is a huge deal.

It depends what the question was.

I also think it depends on the question and how severe the mistake was in checking the wrong box. I also agree that if it is relatively minor and the manager holds that against you, you don't want to work for them, as they will micromanage you from the start. If a job requires significant attention to detail, that would be the only case where it is vital, as these mistakes can be costly.

The bottom line is that overthinking and freaking out is wasted energy. Whatever happens, will be for the best.
