My new reporting boss said that there isn't a need for my position - he said is there something else I am interested in within the company.

My new reporting boss said that there isn't a need for my position - he said is there something else I am interested in within the company.

This isn't the first time I have been moved around. I am trying to find a new job one closer to home so that I can leave but I am starting to feel like I am an after thought - even though I've built multiple departments for them.

Probably time to make a life change- reset to a new chapter.

Go where are valued!! I'd polish your resume with your accomplishments and see what's waiting for you

After thought? They could have just separated you. If you're not interested in other roles then search elsewhere, perhaps it's time.

Unfortunately, this is how most for profit companies work now. My advice, look for something outside company before you leave. It is a tough market for employees now. Especially - white collar.

I'm sorry this is happening. Yet what a great opportunity to find a new position without having to do a massive job search! And, possibly, a position that will add new skills to your resume. If it were me, I would jump at the chance to find a new position internally. These things rarely happen. And embrace the chance to learn something new, if that's a possibility. The more skills you have, the better off you are in the future. Good Luck!

Well, at least he didn't let you go without asking! I would take him on the offer and research what else is there. Ask him for his opinion and references. Meet with HR. Schedule time with people in the company- other management- to share your skills and find out what they have. You are not an afterthought if they are willing to work with you, but I understand how you feel. They recently restructured my team and moved me to a different area with some different responsibilities. Not what I wanted to do and well below what I am capable of, so it hurts, but it is politics - new management trying to find a place for people they brought in. Knowing that, it gives me peace that it is not me. I am using this time to find other opportunities outside, but it really takes time.

Kudos for gaining your management's trust! That's one way to look at it.

I suggest that you take some time to consider what YOU want. If you decide to leave, sounds like you'll have several great examples of how you have helped achieve company goals.

If there’s a role that you’re interested in, go for it! It shows they value you, since they’re giving you the opportunity to seek other roles rather than just letting you go.

I would see this as an opportunity not a disaster! Take some time to think about how to grow your career in a direction that can add to your toolkit in ways that benefit you. Clearly they value you or they would have just terminated or packaged you out. See if you can add into the conversation a few WFH days to be able to be more immersed in the new role if possible. You are NOT an afterthought unless you make yourself one.

If they're moving you around, then you can pretty much surmise that they've no idea of what to do with your skill set. And the roulette wheel will probably keep turning in hopes that something will either "stick" or you'll leave out the door. Keep looking for other opportunities.

I know you're feeling down about this because you clearly have not been recognized for all your contributions. However, use the opportunity to stay employed, get your resume out there and search while still working! You're lucky. The majority would have been shown the door.
