How to deal with a boss who throws you under the bus with SLT after supporting your idea moments before the meeting? I bidding my time to save up money while looking for a new role but after today's action, I feel my days are numbered.

How to deal with a boss who throws you under the bus with SLT after supporting your idea moments before the meeting? I bidding my time to save up money while looking for a new role but after today's action, I feel my days are numbered.

Back history, before I accepted the job, I was told I would report to another leader. The first few weeks were touch and go after I found out that I was reporting to a director who is condescending towards women. He calls women names, brushes off their ideas and blatantly gives male colleagues credit for the smallest 'wins' when their female counterparts are delivering large-scale achievements without even a nod or thank you.

I can deal without praise but I refuse to be spoken in this tone. I feel like this is hurrying me towards an exit but I'm fighting to stay to have a paycheck. I'd appreciate your advice as it's starting to take a toll and I'm having trouble making myself go into the office every day.

Literally just went through this. When i raised the issue about the tone and name calling they turned it around and gave me a development plan last week.

Outside of the horrible treatment, is it a company you want to work for, did you see yourself growing there? As long as there is no documented "issues" with your performance you should be okay, no praises hopefully is not a cause for getting let go. Learn the skills, get the training you want for the next role. If they fire you collect the unemployment without feeling like you did something wrong or you failed. I myself started searching because they left a bad taste in my mouth even if "they say they want me to succeed" I worked remotely in my PJs because i was feeling sad. I understand your pain

Your response hurts my heart because I have been there. Hang in there!

Been there as well. I found focusing on my personal life and interests helped me remove myself from the aggression and frustration in my work life. I found I slept better and was not as beaten down. I made the most of my time away from work and it allowed me enough peace of mind to last the additional 3 months to land my next job. It also helped me interview well because I was not so exhausted from the fight to remain. I felt fresher and more engaged to make a good impression and great choice.

I’m sure you’ve already heard “document” this crap you’re dealing with - Being an adult and working while our outside lives are being disrupted (such is life) - one would think people could practice some kind of self awareness and try working as a team or simply not be an ass - am I asking too much?

sorry you have to deal with this nonsense….really, I am…it’s brutal and takes a toll on oneself - make sure you’re taking care of you

Document everything. Start your job search immediately and also if the company is large enough see if you can shift to report to someone else. Good luck, and take a deep breath.

SLT = something like that (slang)

Not sure though if this is what she meant.

It sounds like a tough position. I would document everything and start looking for a new role immediately. Your boss clearly doesn't value you or your contributions to the team. I am afraid it will likely only get worse. When you start dreading going into the office every day that is your body telling you something is wrong. Be proactive, start saving $$$, and getting your resume out there.

If you company has a hotline for harassment, ethics, etc - use it. Hopefully, others can use it as well. Give a specific time/meeting it happened that had witnesses.

It does work. I have seen it work in two different companies. Both times they were C-Suite Executives.

Document and seek some counseling for yourself.

    Bait and Switch.

t is unfortunately, but often times companies will have applicants interview with a colleague of the hiring manager. Why? As in your case, the hiring manager is abusive and unprofessional with female applicants and/or staff members.

Remember, this is their problem -- not yours. If it cannot be resolved internal, you may want to look elsewhere for a more supportive environment.

Sending you positive thoughts. (I have worked in that environment and it was difficult and draining.)
