Happy Monday!!

Happy Monday!!

Need some advice…..

I started my potential “dream” job last week yet come Friday - I felt like a pin ball because I sat with everyone and observed the processes of their respected area - I then went to a separate location and did the same…..(but was showed my office is there)

Not many people are there other than the owner at this point (and downstairs we store the vast majority of equipment and a guy or 2 are there building products)

At what point do I grab the reins and be clear regarding my responsibilities- I feel all over the place…

Thanks everyone ❤️

It's only the first week; they may be trying to give you a taste of the organization so you have a sense of how your role fits into the whole. But if it feels overwhelming or you're not feeling clear on your role, I recommend you reach out to your immediate supervisor and ask them for some time to answer any questions you have and discuss responsibilities. Also, you should be able to give feedback to whomever organized your first week.

You probably have a 30 or 90-day probation period, so this is the time they (and you) use to decide if this is a good fit, get oriented to the business and their processes, and learn their systems and policies. Having anxiety about what comes next is normal during the first week. I agree with M. Elizabeth that you should talk to your immediate supervisor with any questions or anxieties about what you learned last week. They are likely expecting you to and will ask if they are proactive in your onboarding.

Congrats on the new job! Right now, you're taking in a lot of newness, which can be exciting but also overwhelming. Take your time to meet your new colleagues and understand how your office environment works. I suggest that you schedule regular meetings with your manager to ensure you know what you need to know to do your job, and establish milestones. Agree on objective measures so you can adjust as needed.

Taking the reins will come after about 3 months when you truly understand your responsibilities. Listening to folks is just a baby step in the direction.
