Internal position timeline ?

Internal position timeline ?

I applied to a different position through my company’s internal portal. I applied on 7/10 and the position closed 7/16.

I’m not familiar with the internal postings process. Is it normal for it to take a few weeks before hearing anything? Do I reach out to the recruiter or hiring manager for the position? Or just patiently wait?

For context, I work for a large manufacturing company that has multiple locations across the country and internationally. The primary location for this position is in a different state and it’s a different division so I don’t know anybody personally.

After a week or so, especially for an internal position, reach out to your manager (I assume they know) or the recruiter for an interview timeline.

I would definitely reach out to both HR and the hiring manager.

Yes, contact HR /recruiter. If you're in good standing with your direct boss, also reach out to them to see what the status is.

In staffing, often recruiters will close a job hosting if they get more applicants than they can screen or when they reach a particular threshold. So they may just be looking through resumes. Doesn’t hurt to reach out and see if there’s any update. Good luck!

Job postings are typically 14 days or less if they have a preselected candidate. I’m waiting to inform my manager until I have more details and to see if the position would work without relocation. (I was told to apply by somebody based on their experience with the position and it is not location dependent.)

thanks for the responses. I’ll probably reach out this week.

Please just ask someone, preferably HR, at your organization. Anything else is just speculative.

It would seem that your company (check your employee handbook) has a protocol to post the role internally for 6 days (most companies do 5 as that is a week). If the role is closed reach out to your own HR business partner and ask them if the role was truly open, and if so has it been filled. Internal applicants should always be interviewed and perhaps they are just no longer taking any new applications because of volume. There is also the possibility depending upon the role that they only posted it for the sake of firming up someones VISA. That is often done with a short post similar to what you describe. If you are not interviewed and or the role has gone to someone else take the time to find out from the HR person and perhaps by reaching out to the internal hiring manager how you could perhaps be considered in the future. As an internal candidate you should approach directly vs being careful because you have insider experience. Good luck.
