Imposter syndrome or legitimately not skilled enough?

Imposter syndrome or legitimately not skilled enough? I felt like a failure in an interview. I interviewed for a volunteer position just a few hours per month and I was already intimidated by a few of the requirements, because I don't have the experience in the specific area, but I am sure I could figure it out. However, I am not confident. I have I have good experience in the field, but not specific experience doing what they are asking, and I know that my lack of confidence showed. I feel so stupid, but I also know I need to keep trying to improve and build my skills. Maybe this position is not a good fit for me, and perhaps I should find one that will give me some training. I just feel so low and stupid right now, because I am sure they were disappointed in me. Thanks for letting me vent.

Wait a minute, this is a VOLUNTEER position? If you're not getting paid, anything you do for them is a gift. Don't let future employers intimidate you; exactly as you said, if you don't have experience in a specific area, you can figure it out, or better yet, they can TRAIN you. If you don' t know how to use Google Sheets, someone can show you, but they can't show you how to be a dedicated employee who works well with others. The latter is far more important, and it sounds like you exemplify the traits employers would want.

I'm sure you did your best and that's what matters most. Since this is a volunteer position, I definitely wouldn't be so hard on yourself. As someone stated earlier, they'll be grateful that you even offered to help out. Getting confident in your skill set and what you have to offer takes time. If anything, I do hope you get this volunteer position so you can see it as a way to build your confidence and skills. I'm actually proud of you for having the courage in trying! You should be proud of yourself for having a willingness to learn and grow.

In the meantime, explore online courses, many courses you can find for free to help you grow and build your confidence.

We all have to start somewhere and we all definitely do not know it all, there's always room to grow so just trust your journey.

    Good luck to you!
