Not invited to former supervisor’s retirement party.

Backstory- https://fairygodboss.com/community-discussion/yErfOLTIC/am-i-being-quietly-fired

I met up with a colleague earlier this month and she shared with me that she was invited to my former supervisor’s retirement party a couple of months ago. Other people who are apparently no longer with the company were in attendance. Nobody reached out to me. I was clearly not invited, which only reinforces why I have not been in contact with anyone except the colleague since I left two years ago. My colleague left the company over a year ago. She said it was interesting, but she wanted to see my former supervisor. I live out of state and did not tell anyone except my colleague. It’s best that way. The favorite receptionist was promoted to the supervisor position. I don’t feel bad, in fact good for her. But I feel like I dodged a bullet. I honestly never want to see any of these people again. Also heard people I was friendly with are also no longer with the same company.

It sounds like your life is all-around better now that you no longer work there, so they actually did you a favor by not inviting you to the party. This saves you time and money. Just be glad that place is in the rear view mirror and you have better things ahead.

Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, it’s all in the rear view mirror and can only look ahead.

Guess I'm not sure what your point is in sharing this?

So you’ve not been in contact with anyone from your former job and now you’re upset that you didn’t get invited to the retirement party…of someone you didn’t stay in touch with? What are we missing here?

  5. Anonymous

Exactly, I fail to see the problem.

You say "I honestly never want to see any of these people again." and are complaining that you weren't invited to a former colleagues retirement party?

What is the point of your post? Seems really petty and "poor me" to me.

So what, you weren't invited. Clearly they felt the same way about you that you felt about them. Move on.

Good for you that you 'dodged a bullet'? I'm confused - one point in your post, you sound almost upset that you weren't invited. As a whole, this sounds more like gossip for your friend group as a opposed to random internet strangers.

I was not upset, honestly I am glad I was not invited. I am just mentioning it and glad I moved on. It’s being on the outside looking in. My colleague said the same thing. A lot of judgy responses on here.

The responses on here aren’t of judgement, they’re expressing confusion. You took the time to share this story with a bunch of internet strangers and now you’re feeling judged because you got a bunch of feedback challenging your narrative?

Oh well, you can’t control other people’s behavior. The good news is that, because you weren’t invited, you didn’t have to spend money on gas, travel, and lodging to go to some stranger’s retirement party.

I would be happy to not have been invited. You left your old company in 2023, and it was BECAUSE OF your toxic boss then, so why would you want to even be invited?

Be grateful and move on. If you haven't been spending any time with folks from that company, they are not worth being around now. Gossip about being left off the invite does not serve you.

Time to move on and put it behind you.
