I'm seriously counting down the days until its time for me to leave this POS place I work at.

Im seriously counting down the days until its time for me to leave this POS place I work at. I'm doing the work of 4 freaking ppl at my job with barely any help from my Supervisor & I have been getting criticized left & right about EVERYTHING I do for the past 2 weeks!! Is EVERYTHING expected to be PERFECT when I'm overseeing 40+ people for 1 program, juggling multiple duties and issues in the program, in addition to calling clients, assessing, & resolving conflicts for people w/no training.

Yesterday, my Director was just nitpicking with things I did nonstop. First, she sent me an email about the SAME ISSUE again today regarding 2-3 payment reminders that were sent out a little bit later than how they should have been sent out asking me "Why are the notices being sent out right now? And were they overlooked initially. Honestly, if the reminder is being sent this late it just makes us look bad. If there are any others that wee overlooked, please don't send them out. Can you let me know how many weren't send last month at the time they should have been sent? I've seen a few be sent * would like a total." Oh whatever. Even when I do send the payment reminders out on time, they still don't get posted to the tenants' accounts like they should and the payments get lost because the LANDLORDS DONT FREAKING PAY ATTENTION TO THEM!!!

Strike 2 -before I logged off today (and I should have logged off as soon as I was off, but I wanted to make sure everything got sent right away). My Director sent me an email saying "we do not need income info. from her roommate if they're not in her household. I did not ask you to request that. Don't send another email today. Just sit on it tonight and follow up tomorrow to let her know that we don't need income docs for her roommate." She also told me to apologize to the client as well. Oh God. Like how do you even respond to a NASTY email like that?

As if ppl don't make mistakes and as if her situation isn't CONFUSING AS CRAP!! My Director literally forgot to hit the freaking SUBMIT button last week for payroll and I screwed up bad I see. And why is she even talking to me in that tone through email?? I'm so ready to get the hell out. Affordable housing emailed me today telling me that 1 person is ahead of me on the waiting list I am currently on and then I will be offered a unit. Even though I don't have another job yet, I really may just accept the housing offer. I don't need to continue working someplace toxic and crappy as this place where I am nitpicked and criticized about EVERY LITTLE thing. When I complete other work assignments, they are overlooked and I barely receive appreciation for them--even though I constantly find myself WORKING ALONE!!!

I have not seen any positive emails about the hard work I have been doing lately come through and I don't appreciate it at all. "Just sit on it...." who the h*** talks to their employees like that?? The last time I received a positive email from My Director or Supervisor was months ago. I almost feel like bringing it up in the meeting I have with my Supervisor tomorrow about how I feel like Ive been receiving alot of criticisms lately and it feels like I never know when I'm doing anything right anymore.

Mistakes are mistakes, but not all mistakes have the same consequences. Did the notices result in your clients receiving larger "past due" charges? Think about your Director's mistake of not submitting the payroll. That affected lives. The mistakes you have been making, according to what you have listed here, include missing/misunderstanding application requirements and sending notices late. These actions affect your client's lives and your company's revenue stream, as well as compliance requirements. If you want to talk to your supervisor about how they have addressed the issue, I would first acknowledge your mistakes and the actions you plan to take to prevent them from happening again. Fishing for compliments will get you nowhere, and more likely will lead to more criticism.

It sounds like your supervisor and director may also be overloaded. Tempers are short. Do you have weekly 1:1s? If not, maybe it's time to get those on the calendar. That gives you a scheduled day/time for 2-way feedback. You might also consider tracking your time and creating a report for your superiors showing them how much you have on your plate and where your time is going. They are probably not thinking holistically about your situation, especially if they're under the gun with their own overwhelm. Before bailing on your job altogether, maybe zoom out and take a look at the history. Is it always like this? If not, what has changed? Is it possible to get curious and solution-focused around workload and prioritization, instead of defensive? Approaching your boss with "I need help prioritizing because the current workload is not feasible and mistakes are more likely to keep happening" is a better approach than "Stop being an a-hole and yelling at me". Take the opportunity tomorrow to get your supervisor's buy-in on how to prioritize tasks. You might also consider blocking out focus time on your calendar with notifications OFF to complete your most important tasks. This helps enormously with focus and reduces overwhelm. Sending you lots of good juju as you navigate this difficult situation!

You need to spend your time looking for another job. It's that simple. Stop worrying about the job you are in and devote your free time to getting out of there. You are dealing with some very inexperienced management. Experienced management does not send those sorts of emails to their staff. Seasoned managers pick up the phone or have a few minute face to face conversation to avoid this type of resentment. It is obvious that this organization is understaffed. Let them deal with all of that when you are off to a new job.

I have been--EVERYDAY. I am still waiting to hear back from 2 interviews I recently had and one job I did an assessment for. People need to understand that the job market isnt NORMAL right now and that its alot of craziness going on right now that is inexcusable AND unexplainable. Yeah that was very despicable--the message the Director sent to me. Im doing the best I can with the overlapping duties and projects I'm constantly working on.

ike why does she think it is okay to speak to me in a demeaning tone like that?? Oh yeah my Supervisor got super offended when I mentioned how we could have a quick meeting about one of our clients yesterday. She said "what are we meeting about exactly?" And said "if the Director spends time talking about certain situations & she spends time talking about the same situation, them that's not being productive and that time could be spent doing something else." She never wants to meet and is always disappearing and dodging work--so it's just like her to say something like that.

Candidly, the best thing to do is to stop taking all this stuff so personally. Trust me! The sort of management does this to everyone. Very few exceptions. It's not despicable, it's just plain stupid. Rookie mistakes. I have been in the working world for 40 plus years. As a manager, you realize you don't do these things because it creates all sorts of problems. IF someone wants a few minutes, you give them their few minutes. My mother told me her NUMBER ONE rule in management back in 1975. And what was the rule???? I JUST LISTEN. (I don't comment, criticize, back talk to those who wish to speak with me). Secondly, you have had 2 interviews which might pan out. FOCUS ON THAT! Stay focused on the positive. See if you can get another interview or 2 lined up for this week.

Go and reread your posts to see the common issue with them. Everyone else is to blame and you take no accountability for your job. You are there to get a paycheck and that is it.

In the time it took you to write this, you could have been looking for another job.

I understand your frustration at being overloaded (been there, done that for years), but what you call a "nasty" email just looks like direct communication to me, and your attitude is, frankly, revealing more of the story than perhaps you realize.

  11. Anonymous

    it's you, isn't it.

  12. Anonymous

You probably consider the tone of your supervisor's email to be "nasty", but she may have not meant it in that way at all. Granted, she could have started off by stating that she 'appreciates the hard work you're putting in' etc. and then addressed the errors, but she didn't. If she typically comes across like this when writing an email, then you'll have to assume that it's her style and she probably has no idea how she appears when corresponds this way. To be fair, though, her job is to guide and correct, and to make sure that all duties that are done under her watch are done correctly. It may sound nitpicky, because, hey, we all have our pride, and we don't like hearing from someone else that what we've done is wrong. But really, it isn't to just pick on you. It's to make sure the job gets done. That's the bottom line. Now, if you really feel that you're unfairly being belittled and underappreciated (and who doesn't these days), then maybe it's high time that you find somewhere else to rise and shine. All the best.

The job market is seriously terrible right now. I was laid off in April 2025 & I have only had a few interviews. Unemployment pays next to nothing. Plus, my benefits will run out soon and COBRA is about $950 a month. (not happening for me). Just do your best and go home. It’s better than being out of work.

  14. Kimberly Hornstein

Yep in the same situation, fortunately, I was looking to retire in 2-5 years and know I'll be financially okay if I do retire. Good luck to you.

  15. Anonymous

There's no tone in her email. She simply asked questions and requested information that she, as your supervisor, needs. She stated she didn't ask you to ask the roommate for income docs bc she wanted you clarify that she hasn't asked for that info. She wasn't being rude in any way.

It is not rude for your manager to point out your mistakes.

  16. Anonymous

you say what I was going to respond with. Reading into emails happens, but normally it is not what the sender implied. I agree with you - it is time for her to move on as it is not the job for her. If she responds to her co-workers as she is typing here....hmmmmmmm

Deep breathes, take this energy and apply for other jobs as if that WAS your job, because it is. It sounds to me like you've hit a breaking point- that is the universes sign to move on. Toxic spaces just bring out the worst in all of us. Go heal, get back to your center and find your purpose, your calling.

    Get a life, you loser.

  23. Erin Vega

Loser?? YOU don’t know me!! So what makes you think I would tolerate you calling me names?? See, the difference between me and you is that not once have I hidden behind the anonymous poster crap!! But yet every time you come on posting about woe is me, several of us call you out.

This situation that you have at your work is not caused by anyone other than YOU!! Your first post, people offered you advice and how you could possibly go about creating a better work environment for you. YOU are the only one to blame because you have done absolutely NOTHING to change your work ethics and attitude.

Than you posted several other posts about how you do EVERYTHING and how you monitor what your supervisor and director are NOT doing.

LISTEN TO THIS… YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS and are NOT the OWNER of this nonprofit!!!! YOU were hired to do a job, which I know did not include monitoring your supervisor and director. Geez, I have to give praise to your Director and Supervisor for putting up with you whining and complaining.

But I imagine you only come on here every month or so to post the same complaints to try and get sympathy from others who have not seen your other 50 posts about how you are to be blamed for everything and you didn’t get a trophy cuz you worked.

it’s a good thing you have posted anonymously on here cuz I for one after your first whiny post would have contacted your director and supervisor and told them that you were wanting to leave because you weren’t getting any trophies from them. I would also advise them to fire your self righteous patootie on the spot so that they wouldn’t be wasting money and time on someone who clearly has added the task of keeping track of what they were doing, instead of just doing what they were hired to do.

Now you’ve resorted to calling names and telling posters to shut up, which makes me now believe that my four year old niece acts more mature than you. It’s one thing to post to vent about your job, but when you get advice to help you with changing your issues at work and do absolutely NOTHING to improve your work ethics, but than come on and post the same venting post for months on end it’s a little ridiculous.

A little piece of advice for you… put on your big girl panties and DO YOUR JOB and quit blaming everyone else cuz you didn’t get a prize. Because if you were really to reflect on what your job is and working within a nonprofit, don’t you understand that helping your clients achieve success the prize you should be looking for???

However, I have a feeling that if you do leave this nonprofit and start working somewhere else you will be back to post how you DO EVERYTHING and play the blame game instead of taking action to improve your work environment.

I was in a similar situation, and I just left (retired) no job is worth the mental stress. The job was affecting my health and was scaring my daughter. My daughter is everything to me and if this scared her, I knew it was time to go. It was an adjustment, but my mental and psychical health is worth more to me than any job. Do what is best for you!!! GOOD LUCK!!

Wow you really came across as being the MEAN, WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST, EAST, NORTH AND SOUTH.

Catty much? You don't have to come at people online in the manner in which you did. Totally uncalled for.

You sound like a mean girl who treats all of her direct reports like total garbage, Ms. NASTY AS HELL. Have you ever stopped to think that she probably doesn't reach out to her Supervisor much at all and her Supervisor just does not want to I don't know...well--SUPERVISE??!!!!
